Roof tiles are loaded in stacks such as these prior to
installation. The wood rafters and trusses that support
the roof actually deflect or sag downward up
to 2-4 inches from the weight of tile. When re-roofing,
your structure will relax and expand upwards slightly after
the roof is removed. Once the tile is loaded as in
the photo, tile manufacturers recommend allowing 4-7 days
for the wood rafters to settle back into their original
position before installing. In new construction with rafters
that have never held any weight, a 30 day deflection period
is recommend. Installing tile before these waiting periods
can cause the adhesive mortar bonds to separate as the roofs settles. |
