Asphalt Shingles Photo Gallery
Asphalt Shingle roofs are one of the
most common types on residences, and usually the most affordable.
Shingles are composed of a fiberglass mat sandwiched in asphalt
with a granulated surfacing, can have manufacturers' warranties
ranging from 20-40 years, with a comparable life expectancy.
They come in a wide variety of shapes, styles and colors, and
are readily available at roofing & building supply stores. The
correct method of attachment is with full head ring shank nails,
either by hand or pneumatic gun. The two most common types are
Three-tab and Dimensional. Several other specialty designs are
available, and samples of all can be provided by Angell Roofing
for the customer to select from. Certain municipalities do not
allow Shingle roofs, such as Miami Beach or Coral Gables, except
in special instances (such as inadequate structural support
for the weight of tile). Shingles have a minimum pitch requirement
of 2":12" (a 2" drop in pitch for every 12"
horizontally). Scroll down to the pitch chart at the page bottom
for an illustration of pitch angles.
