"Home owners who install a metal roof that meets Energy Star qualifications
on their primary residence are entitled to a one-time tax credit of $500
within the year the roof was installed, according to the Energy Policy Act
of 1005. A metal roof is the only roof system that currently qualifies for this reward."

Metal Roofs Stronger
(article by: Miami Herald, December 6, 2006)
The Dec. 3 letter Insurance Proposal suggests
the need for alternatives to roofs with shingle and
tiles, which require repairs or replacing after storms.
But an alternative that outperforms them already exists:
metal roofs.
Residents in the Keys and other islands prone to hurricanes already know of their
durability and performance. Metal roofs withstand higher wind forces, keep homes cooler
in the summer and require less raw material than either shingles or tile. This makes
metal the clear choice for anyone concerned for their future and the Earth's.
FEMA conducted a statewide survey after the storms of 2004 and published a report
stating that the metal roofs outperformed all others after Hurricanes Charley,
Frances, Jeanne and Ivan.
I urge homeowners to research metal roofs and consult with an architect. A properly
installed metal roof can be the last time your roof will need replacing.
