Wood Shake And Wood Shingle Photo Gallery
Wood shake and wood shingle roofs can give
a building a look that can be both rustic and modern. During the
Colonial period and westward expansion of America, these roofs were
the most popular and readily available material-wise. Usually cut
from cedar or redwood, wood shingles have a milled or cut finish,
while shakes have a rougher split finish. The wood cedar is renowned
for its' long life, classic look, and ability to withstand weather
well, as evidenced by cedar posts or paneling. Several types of
imitation shake & shingle are also available, & have a longer life
expectancy than actual cedar. We recommend the installation of an
Ice & Water Shield prior to the shingle installation. The minimum
recommended pitch requirement for shake & shingles is 3":12".
